“Some Place Special” is the reputation Cooper City has been known for since it was founded by Morris Cooper in June of 1959, hence why the city was named Cooper. Today Cooper City is an 8.5 square mile community that takes pride in it’s tree-lined neighborhoods and quiet streets. Interesting facts about the early days of Cooper City, In 1959 the city only had 85 residents. It was not until 1963 that Griffin Road was actually paved and was originally known by the locals as “Halloween Road” because of all the dips and potholes that could be experience up and down the avenue Stirling Road didn’t get it’s paving till 1967.
By then the population had grown to roughly 11,000 residents. Early recordings also state that what is called 90th Avenue was then known as Morris Cooper Boulevard. In 1990 after Hurricane Andrew struck Miami- Dade county did Cooper City, Florida see its first real influx of residents bringing the population to 30,000.
